Trade shows and conventions are not always things that we want to do, but it can be vital for our success. Trade shows allow us to show off what we are capable of and conventions are also useful for showing off your skills. This means that both situations require us to look like we belong in the position that we are in. There are things we should wear to them and things that should be avoided at all cost. Why Clothing Matters

When you think about a convention, you may think it’s just simply a boring thing to deal with, but necessary in the business world. In many ways, this is true. However, it could also be your one chance to make an impression on a potential client, boss man, or supporter for whatever project you may have going. This makes it vitally important that their first impression of you is a good one. They will be looking at not only what you have to offer, but what you are like as a person, a business professional, and more. If they like you on a first glimpse, they may stick around longer to hear what you have to say.

Deciding What to Wear

When attending a conference, you want to look professional, even if the atmosphere is more casual. For men, this may mean khakis, button-down jackets, button-up colored shirts, etc. A nice belt will also make you look professional but comfortable. The one key is that all of your clothing should be wrinkle-free. For shoes, leather shoes that are black or brown are ideal. Some men may also wear Ariat Workhog 8 H2O work boots, but it depends on what you are there for.

Women do have more versatility in their wardrobe for conferences. They can wear the khakis or a nice pencil skirt. They can wear button up shirts, silk blouses, pretty knitted sweaters, jackets, or anything else that appeals to them on that day. Keep in mind, shirts should not be revealing if you hope to appear professional. This means you should avoid low cut and see-through shirts. If none of those options appeal to you, a nice dress is also good for conferences. However, when choosing a dress, you should choose one that is not clingy. Women should wear shoes that are comfortable. This means closed toe pumps and flats in either black or brown.

Enjoy Yourself and Meet New Connections

Not all conventions and trade shows have to be boring. You can meet and mingle with a variety of people while you are there. If you attend Houston Conventions, you will be able to dress informally, but professionally while you are at the trade show. People here are good with seeing work boots and something other than light tan khakis. They are mostly going to be people who work on the farm or have worked hard to reach the top of their industry when they aren’t attending a trade show. Who knows, your shoes may end up being what brings them to your display.
